Everything You Need To Know

About Lash Lifting...

Let's talk Lash Lift...

What is lash lifting?

A lash lift is a perm for eyelashes. It is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure.

What does lash lifting do?

The treatment lifts the lashes, enhancing the eyes by creating longer, thicker, fuller lashes.

How does lash lifting work?

Lash lifting works via a chemical reaction. Once the lashes are set against the silicone shield, Step 1 Perming Solution is applied. This chemical solution breaks down the bonds in the hair that give it shape, allowing the hairs to mould to the new, curled shape against the silicone shield. Step 2 Neutralising Cream then stops the chemical reaction, setting the bonds to hold the desired shape. Step 3 Moisturising Serum rehydrates the hairs; without Step 3 aftercare, the eyelashes are prone to damage. The eyelashes must be nourished post-treatment to keep them healthy and in good condition.

How long does lash lifting last?

A lash lift typically lasts 6 to 8 weeks, depending on your natural lash growth cycle. Following aftercare ensures the lashes grow out nicely and in good condition.

How long does a lash lift take to do?

It depends on the technician's expertise/level of skill and how comfortable they are working. It also depends on the preparation needed beforehand (e.g. if the client is wearing a lot of makeup, the appointment will take longer as the technician has to thoroughly cleanse the area). In general, an appointment will take 30-60 minutes.

How long should a client wait between lash lift appointments?

You should ask your client to return 6-8 weeks later for a fresh lift. Your client can return after 3-4 weeks for a maintenance appointment; this involves a top up tint.

Do I need to be trained to offer a lash lift?

Yes, you should be a fully qualified professional to offer this service. Beautiful Brows & Lashes offer a Lash Lifting course that is ABT-accredited and teaches you everything you need to know.

Can I do a lash lift with brow lamination products?

This is not always possible, but with Beautiful Brows products, you can! Our Lash & Brow Bomb formulas are the same, meaning they can be used interchangeably on brows or lashes.

Can I tint after a lash lift?

Yes! Lift the lashes and then apply tint using half the time that Step 1/ 2 was left on for. Tint the lashes after Step 2 and before Step 3.

Client concerns...

Can clients with short lashes have a lift?

Absolutely! Many clients with short lashes may opt for a lash lift to enhance their look and create the look of longer lashes.

Is lash lifting safe?

Yes, lash lifting is completely safe. However, there are some precautions you should follow. For example, you should never perform a treatment on a pregnant or breastfeeding woman; you can read more here. If your client is undergoing any serious medical treatment, such as chemotherapy, you should not proceed with treatment unless they can provide a note from the GP stating it is safe to do so. Full contraindications that prohibit treatment will be gone through on your training day.

You must patch test every new client. You must patch test all existing clients every 6 months or whenever there is a change in their medication. Patch test Steps 1, 2 and 3, the bonder and the tint on the inside of the arm. Patch tests must be performed at least 24 hours prior to treatment; advise the client not to wash the area for 24 hours.

Does lash lifting cause hair loss?

Lash lifting does not cause hair loss. However, if the lifting solution is left on the lashes for too long, this can cause overprocessing and result in hair damage, which may lead to hair loss. This is why it is so important to only receive treatment from a qualified professional. Additionally, to keep the hairs in good health, good aftercare is essential. If these rules are followed, lash lifting does not affect hair health.

Is a lash lift worth it?

Definitely! Lash lifting is a low-maintenance beauty treatment that enhances the face and gives the appearance of thicker, longer lashes. It can simplify morning routines and make you look ready when you wake up.

Can I lift my own lashes?

If you are not a professional technician who is fully qualified in lash lifting, you should not perform the treatment on your own lashes.

Aftercare...

What should a client use as aftercare?

BB's Lash & Brow Toxx is an amazing aftercare product that deeply nourishes the lashes post-treatment. It is packed with biotin and keratin, helping to keep hairs healthy and hydrated. Castor Oil is also great for aftercare as it helps to prevent breakages but ask your client to wait 48 hours before applying this.

How long should a client wait to shower after a lash lift?

Tell your client to wait 24 hours after treatment before showering. Getting water on the lashes (including shower steam) can affect the lamination, leading to an unsatisfying result. To avoid getting the lashes wet, you should also refrain from the following activities: swimming, saunas, excessive exercise (to avoid sweat) and facial treatments. Be careful when washing your face for the first 24 hours, and avoid oil-based makeup and skincare.

Can a client use castor oil after a lash lift?

Castor oil is an aftercare product that protects lashes after a lash lift. Castor oil is full of fatty acids that lubricate the hair shaft, decreasing the chance of breakages and improving hair condition. Ask your client to wait 48 hours before using the oil to ensure it doesn't affect the lash lift.

Can a client wear mascara on a lash lift?

Mascara should be avoided for the first 24 hours after treatment. After that, wearing mascara will not affect the longevity of treatment.
