Everything you need to know

About Brow Lam...

Let's talk brow lam...

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination is a perm for eyebrows. It is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure.

What does brow lamination do?

The treatment gives a uniform shape by making all the hairs go in the same direction, giving a fuller, thicker look.

How does brow lamination work?

Brow lamination works via a chemical reaction. Step 1 Lifting Cream creates heat, which causes the brow hairs to become pliable, allowing them to be sculpted into the desired shape. Step 2 Neutralising Cream then stops the chemical reaction. Step 3 Moisturising Serum rehydrates the hairs; without Step 3 aftercare, brow hairs are prone to damage. The hairs must be nourished post-treatment to keep them healthy and in good condition.

How long does a brow lamination last?

If correct aftercare is followed, brow lamination lasts for 6-8 weeks.

How long does a brow lamination take to do?

It depends on the technician's expertise/level of skill and how comfortable they are working. It also depends on the preparation needed beforehand (e.g. if the client is wearing a lot of makeup, the appointment will take longer as the technician has to thoroughly cleanse the skin). In general, an appointment will take 30-60 minutes.

How long should a client wait between brow lamination appointments?

You should ask your client to return 8 weeks later to have a fresh lamination. Your client can return after 4 weeks for a maintenance appointment; this involves a top up wax and tint.

Do I need to be trained to offer a brow lamination?

Yes, you should be a fully qualified professional to offer this service. Beautiful Brows & Lashes offer a Brow Lamination course that is ABT-accredited and teaches you everything you need to know.

Can I do a brow lamination with lash lifting products?

This is not always possible, but with Beautiful Brows products, you can! Our Lash & Brow Bomb formulas are the same, meaning they can be used interchangeably on brows or lashes.

Tint or brow lamination first?

You should laminate the brows first, and then apply tint/hybrid stain after Step 2 and before Step 3. Dry wipe the tint with a clean cotton pad. Applying Step 3 will not drastically effect the tint; brow health takes priority during a lamination, so Step 3 is a must.

Client concerns...

Can clients with thin, sparse brows have a lamination?

Absolutely! Many clients with thin brows may opt for a brow lamination to enhance their look and create the appearance of thicker brows.

Can microbladed brows be laminated?

Yes! You can laminate microbladed brows, just ensure that they have fully healed before treating them.

Is brow lamination safe?

Yes, brow lamination is completely safe. However, there are some precautions you should follow. For example, you should never perform a treatment on a pregnant or breastfeeding woman; you can read more here. If your client is undergoing any serious medical treatment, such as chemotherapy, you should not proceed with treatment unless they can provide a note from the GP stating it is safe to do so.

You must patch test every new client. You must patch test all existing clients every six months, or whenever there is a change in their medication. Patch test Step 1, 2 and 3, the bonder and the tint on the inside of the arm. Patch tests must be performed at least 24 hours prior to treatment; advise the client not to wash the area for 24 hours.

Does brow lamination cause hair loss?

Brow lamination does not cause hair loss. However, if the lamination solution is left on the brows for too long, this can cause overprocessing and result in hair damage, which may lead to hair loss. This is why it is so important to only receive treatment from a qualified professional. Additionally, to keep the hairs in good health, good aftercare is essential. If these rules are followed, brow lamination does not affect hair health.

Do laminated brows move?

After a lamination, brow hairs are not set in place but can be reshaped and restyled. Brush through the hairs with a microapplicator or spoolie to set them into the desired position.

Is a brow lamination worth it?

Definitely! Brow lamination is a low-maintenance beauty treatment that enhances the face and gives the appearance of thicker, bolder brows. It can simplify morning routines and create effortless definition.

Can I laminate my own brows?

If you are not a professional technician who is fully qualified in brow lamination, you should not perform the treatment on your own brows.

Don't forget aftercare...

What should a client use for aftercare?

BB's Lash & Brow Toxx is an amazing aftercare product that deeply nourishes the brows post-treatment. It is packed with biotin and keratin, helping to keep hairs healthy and hydrated. Castor Oil is also great for aftercare, but ask your client to wait 48 hours before applying this.

How long should a client wait to shower after brow lamination?

Tell your client to wait 24 hours after treatment before showering. Getting water on the brows (including shower steam) can affect the lamination, leading to an unsatisfying result. To avoid getting the brows wet, you should also refrain from the following activities: swimming, saunas, excessive exercise (to avoid sweat) and facial treatments. Be careful when washing your face for the first 24 hours and avoid oil-based makeup and skincare.

Can a client wear fake tan after brow lamination?

Wait 48 hours after treatment to self-tan. Additionally, avoid sun beds, spray tans and exposure to direct sunlight for 48 hours.

Can a client use castor oil after brow lamination?

Castor oil is a deeply nourishing aftercare product to keep brows well conditioned after brow lamination. Ask your client to wait 48 hours before using to ensure the oil doesn't affect the lamination.

Can a client use brow gel on a brow lamination?

A brow gel is an amazing product to help brows stay in place. BB's Brow Bomb Glue is packed with keratin, making it a gorgeous aftercare product post-treatment. Ask your client to wait 24 hours before applying.
